Gasket works well - but I don't work well. |

The gasket worked as expected, so I'm relaying my experience below for anyone else's benefit that is as
unknowledgeable as I am.
My previous gasket had frayed and worn to an extent I am surprised it still maintained a good seal. There was little to see of it and when I tried putting on the new gasket I immediately wasn't certain about how it had been installed before.
I had read online of people installing it in one piece - I tried that, it made for an extremely tight fit when closing the door and I used a rubber mallet on the door, expecting the gasket to "settle" after a while.
The settling never occurred and clearly the mallet was a dubious way to close the door, so I had the local stove shop come and replace the gasket.
Turned out my only problem was that instead of folding the gasket over at the corners (which added a lot of extra thickness) I should've cut the gasket at each corner.
