Fisher wood stoves were created by Bob Fisher in the 1970s in his home state of Oregon when he pioneered the Papa Bear stove to heat his A-frame cabin. The standards set by Fisher helped to pioneer safety regulations for all home wood stoves that became effective in 1980. Ironically, the stoves manufactured by Fisher before 1980 did not meet these standards.

Fisher stoves are no longer manufactured in North America and are unavailable for purchase in the U.S., though you can still purchase them in New Zealand. However, as a testament to Bob Fisher's commitment to reliability, there are existing Fisher stoves that have been in use for 20, 30, and even 40 years.
