Create Endless Memories Around Your Fire Pit

Create Endless Memories Around Your Fire Pit

Nothing says summer like evenings spent outdoors around a cozy fire. Fire pits are a great outdoor extension of the living room that make a charming family lounge area. While you can spend a lovely evening just sitting around the fire and enjoying the company of your loved ones, there are also countless activities you can do that are perfect for extending the summer fun after hours.

Here are a few ways to have a great time around your fire pit and create endless summer night memories.

Safety First!

Before getting your night started be sure to keep your home and loved ones safe.

  • Only use a wood-burning fire pit on dirt or other non-combustible material
  • Maintain vertical clearance from flammable items such as vegetation and branches
  • Keep a 10-foot distance from structures
  • Use a safety screen or spark arrester in arid areas

Choosing the right fire pit for your space is the first step in proper safety. Take a look at our blog HERE for more tips.

S’mores

We have got to start with a classic. A time-honored campfire tradition: roasting marshmallows and making gooey s’mores. This is a favorite among kids and adults alike. No matter what kind of fire pit you have, it is easy to create wonderful memories with this sweet treat.

What you’ll need:

  • Graham crackers
  • Chocolate bars
  • Large marshmallows
  • Skewers long enough to hold over the fire without getting burnt
  • Wet wipes for messy eaters

Stargazing

We rarely take the time to slow down to relax, look at the stars, dream and wonder. Gazing at the heavens is a pastime enjoyed by thousands of people globally. Thanks to its soothing ability to make humans feel more grounded and, ultimately, connected, it is a great way to spend time with yourself and others. Plus it’s magical, immersive, and best of all cheap!

Music

Everyone loves music. Imagine the delight a night full of karaoke would create. Or grab a guitar and invite everyone to join in. Just listening to some of everyone’s favorite music can be a great activity to do with your guests. This opens up the chance to get to know one another better by exploring what types of music everyone likes.

Story Telling

Put a fun spin on typical fireside ghost stories or tales of adventures with this twist. Devise a creative story by telling it in a round-robin fashion, just a few pieces at a time. This is how to start:

  1. Choose one person to start the story with a couple sentences. Or you can have each person write down a prompt and then draw one out of a hat to get started.
  2. Continue around the circle, having each person add a few more lines to create the next part of the story and move it along.
  3. In a large group, the last person is responsible for ending the story. For smaller groups, you can go around the circle a few times until the story feels sufficiently long enough to reach the end.

You can also try the ‘Fortunately, Unfortunately’ variation of this type of storytelling. In this game, the person who is starting the story will begin with a positive statement using the word ‘Fortunately’. The next person will follow with an ‘Unfortunately’ statement. For example:

First Person: “Fortunately, my mother finally let me get a dog.”

Second Person: “Unfortunately, the dog ate the entire pie she set out to cool.”

Everyone will love the unpredictability of the tale and not knowing the next twists and turns it will take. Continue the story until it is either finished or no one can stop laughing long enough to contribute any further.

Movie Night

Bring your movie night outdoors with the warmth and coziness of your fire pit. Make it a drive in theater experience with a sheet, some bluetooth speakers, and an inexpensive projector. Set up sleeping bags and pillows in the grass to make it extra cozy. Add a popcorn bar and enjoy popping a delicious bowl full of popcorn the old fashioned way. Have everyone create their own flavor by providing mix-ins such as flavored seasonings, chocolate chips, candy, and pretzels. Don’t forget the butter and, of course, the love!
