Host the Best BBQ Cookout this Summer

Everyone loves a good BBQ, and nothing compares to relaxing summer evenings with friends enjoying quality food straight from the grill. Although it would be easy to grab a bag of frozen burger patties or hot dogs and call it a day, hosting a cookout that will have people talking takes some thoughtful planning.

View these tips and start planning the best BBQ cookout this summer:

1. Have a clear plan lined out – A solid foundation of planning leads to a properly executed barbeque. Plan out the menu in advance and perhaps even practice grilling it up before the big day. A little practice will go a long way in comfortability with the food you’re preparing which means you’ll be able to enjoy your party more.

2. Be mindful of your surroundings and wind – Be sure your grill is on a flat surface and set away from anything that could catch fire. Don’t marinate your foods with lots of grease or fat. Watch the wind, and don’t leave your grill unattended.

3. Prep your grill – Clean and oil your grill (depending on your ingredients). Check your fuel to ensure you have enough to cook the entire meal. Also, be sure that you have the appropriate tools for grilling; long handled utensils are recommended.

4. Use high-quality ingredients – Spending a little extra on the right cuts of meat and locally harvested veggies will make all the difference in having a cookout that people will remember.

5. Cook veggies before the meat – Veggies tend to take longer than other foods. Cook these “low and slow” first, then reheat after your meats are done.

6. Season thoroughly and let your meat rest – Be sure to put more seasoning than you think you’ll need. Seasoning tends to fall off as well as become burned off while cooking. All meats should be given up to 10 minutes of rest, depending on the size of the piece of meat, so that the natural juices have a chance to redistribute. This will provide you with a juicier, more tender piece of meat.

7. Don’t forget to have fun – Hosting cookouts can be stressful at times, but just remember that your guests aren’t going to expect things to be perfect. Relax and have fun!
